Pinellas County's Proven Property Appraiser

Mike is the Pinellas County Property Appraiser, having been sworn in on January 3, 2017 and reelected in 2020. Prior to his election, he was a senior managing director and principal of a residential and commercial appraisal firm in Pinellas County. With over 30 years of experience in property valuation, Mike has qualified as an expert witness in five counties and has substantial experience in evaluating and solving difficult valuation assignments.

Since taking office, Mike has introduced cutting-edge technology to improve customer service and advance the mass appraisal process while remaining fiscally responsible. He presently serves as Chair of the Enterprise GIS (eGIS) Steering Committee and Business Technology Services (BTS) Board, Vice Chair of the Human Rights Board, and Chair of the Property Appraisers’ Association of Florida’s Legislative and Florida Flood Impact Committees.

Mike’s personal life revolves around his love of family, friends, and music. He and his children are all musicians, and he is also an avid sportsman and licensed private pilot. He is active in the community, having coached at West Pinellas Little League, the City of Largo, and the Town of Belleair, and he participates in many charitable causes. Mike resides with his wife Michele in the Largo area.

  • Awarded 2020 Member of the Year, Florida Chapter of the International Association of Assessing Officers
  •  Pinellas Appraiser’s Office Awarded Certificate of Excellence in Assessment Administration, International Association of Assessing Officers – Leads an office that strives for excellence in its field through customer service, professional education, leveraging of technology and best practices (only 1.5% of counties nationwide have earned this distinction)
  • Legislative catalyst for 3-Year Save-Our-Homes Benefit Portability (Amendment 5 – 2020), which prevents thousands of homeowners from losing their Portability Benefit every year
  • Successfully educated and advocated for the renewal of the 10% Non-Homestead cap in 2018 to protect businesses, renters and second-home owners
  • Founder and Chair of the Florida Flood Impact Committee with the Property Appraisers’ Association of Florida (PAAF) – created to fight for the fair treatment of Florida property owners within the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP)
  • Led development of a new state-of-the-art public website providing enhanced access to data, tools and interactive mapping features to assist homeowners and businesses
